Seventeen-year-old Auckland pianist Leon Chen has won the Dame Malvina Major Foundation Alice Cole Piano Scholarship for 2016.
The senior Macleans College student, who studies piano under Qu Yong from the University of Auckland, took out the $800 cash prize ahead of a strong field of competitors.
The five finalists were required to perform in a recital which was adjudicated by renowned New Zealand pianist Kim Naden.
