Christchurch Arts Excellence Award recipient coloratura soprano Polly Ott writes from Germany.
I would like to thank The Dame Malvina Major Foundation for your support towards my Master of Arts in Opera at the University of The Arts in Berlin!
During July I performed in an opera and I gave my final recital which were both being examined. I am thrilled to say that I received marks of 1,0 for both exams which is the highest you can get.
During the three years of intensive study I have learnt so much and have really grown as an artist. I feel so fortunate to have had such great teachers who have helped me through this stage of my development.
Over the last two weeks I have taken a much needed break and have been thinking about how I want to approach this next phase of my career. I plan to base myself in Berlin at least for the next year whilst I do auditions throughout Germany and Europe.
It’s an exciting time for me and I’m really looking-forward to this new challenge!
For your information and enjoyment here are two pieces which I performed during my Master’s Recital a few weeks ago:
Bernstein – Candide – Glitter and Be Gay
Darius Milhaud – A Cup
